Hugh was married the first time in Tennessee, where records from courthouses burning are so hard and what we have are only fragments. Wefind him first in DeKalb Co., Alabama in 1840; 1850 census, BledsowCo., Tennessee; 1860, 1870, 1880 in Marshall Co., Alabama, living neara place named Duck Springs.
The story is told how when his kids got to be a certain age he helpedthem to leave by opening the door and saying goodbye.
In one U S census report Hugh is listed as a licensed minster, howeverI've been unable to find any proof with any of the churches.
