What is this country coming to? I know a special man. He was aveteran of World War 11. He served in the Army and Marines. He was arecipient of the Purple Heart. He almost gave his life for ourcountry and our freedom.
His back was sliced open, and he was ldft for dead. He survived andwas sent home with full honors and the Purple Heart.
This special man is Gene Blanscet.
Gene had a small disability check coming in for his service in theArmy and Marines. He thought as long as he could work and make it, hewouldn't ask for a raise.
This past May, Gene was total disabled. His heart was in surch badshape, the doctors couldn't do surgery. Also, his back started givinghim more problems. Gene decided it was time to ask for an increase inhis disability. He could no longer work.
About two weeks ago, Gene received a letter. He was turned down for araise he needed to survive. When they said no to any increase, it waslike he was stabbed in the back all over again. It hurt Gene knowinghe was there for his country and his country was not there for him.
Gene Blanscet died Aug. 31, 1996. Gene Blanscet, you are a true warhero and your family and friends do love you!
Diana Blanscet
Van Buren, Arkansas
Note:
The night before Gene died he read to me (Patricia (Blanscet) Dill hisdaughter) the answer they had sent to him. He cried reading it to me.He also had wrote a letter to the president "Bill Clinton" and readit to me, and also a letter to the Veteren Office. He died the nextmorning. I will ALWAYS think that the letter that turned him downkilled him. I typed up the letters and mailed them to the people hewanted to receive them. We did get a reply but, but it was justthat. They truely do not care about the men and women who need theirhelp when they get old and unable to work to take care of their self. Many people would have gone on welfare or some time of help. Not myfather he worked hard all his life.
[898] 50th Anniversary was held at the home of Harold and Diana Blanscet.Open house was held and friends and family attended. Patricia(Blanscet) Dill
