[843] Buna was in a band that played all around the county. She and theladies from the Retirement center played on washboards, spoons and allof the old time music makers. They wore granny dresses and bonnets. And could sing and play very good. Buna really enjoyed her friends inthe band.
[845]
This is a "Pot Scracher" that Aunt Buna would make for everyone:
Nylon net 5 inchs wide x 24 inchs long
about four layers of the size above
Take strong thread, heavy nylon and gather together as tightly aspossible. Tie trim off and trim net to suit your fancy.

THIS IS MY LIFE (A PART OF IT) FEBRUARY 1985
I was born in Knox County, Texas, near Weinert, August 27, 1910 toArfastus Benevous and Mabel (Alcorn) Sosebee. They were farmers so welived out in the country. We were a large family with 6 boys and 3girls. I was the oldest girl with two brothers older that I.
We were raised by christian parents so therefore we spent many happyhours together. We moved to Oklahoma later and when my two olderbrothers became school aghe, (we lived near the school) so mom thoughtI should go also as I was 5 years old. I had a cousin who was someolder than I and she was my pal. I went to school a full week andwould not talk to anyone except this cousin. In no way could theteacher persuade me to talk,m so she sent mom a note saying, "youmight as well stop Buna I can't get her to talk," and mom did stip me.(to my sorrow- I havent't stopped talking yet.
By the time I was really school age we had moved back to Texas fromOkla. (now mind you all these trips were by covered wagon.) So Istarted to school and my brother just younger than I started also, butneither he nor I would talk to the teacher. There was a cloak (orcoat) room, very dark in side, where lunch pails and coats were keptfor the day, so the teacher put my brother and I in there. We criedand cried but finally decided we would talk. (as Paul Harvey says"The rest of the story" I have been afraid to stop.
We were picking cotton that fall, (I was 6 years old), for a man andhe and my dad told me if I would pick a hundred pounds they would giveme the money- I picked hard and got 106 pounds. (I got more money fromthat 100 pounds of cotton than any other in my life) On Christmas ofthe same year mom and papa had ordered our Christmas toys form Sears. My best gift was a china doll and a doo bed. The younger boys had"Stopper guns" and one of them shot my doll which I had standing bythe doll bed and it fell to the floor breaking to pieces. I was soheart-broken.
Later we moved to Arkansas, in a covered wagon, cooking on camp fires, stopping to work along the way. We entered Arkansas near Greewoodthem down to Paris and Scranton where we crossed the Arkansas river ona ferry boat. (I was so scared I laid down in the wagon and coveredmy head.) I wouldn't look out at all.
When we arrived at my uncle and aunt's house near Clarksville we hadbeen on the road 6 weeks with my mom being pregnant with her seventhchild, which was two born weeks later, just (imagine this), in a smallhouse down on Dirty Creek.
My youth years were spent in Arkansas. We did farming and whateverwork was available, chopping cotten or picking cotton, pulling peanutsor harvesting potatoes.
I finished the eighth grad at our little country school where about 55to 60 pupils were in classes in only one room, no high school toattend, only one teacher per school. I can see it now. The old bigcoal stove in the center of the room, boys throwing paper wads orspitting in the fire or coal bucket. We loved our school. When I was16 years old I wou a beauty contest at Altus at the grape festival.
When I was 18 years old we made another move back to Oklahoma in acovered wagon, but before we left Arkansas, Elmer and I becameengaged to be married as soon as he could land a job, paying enough tomaintain a home. He got a job in the coal mines at Williams, Oklahomawhere one of his brothers was working. This is over near Poteau.
We were married in April 1929, very hard times- our son was born abouta year and a half later.
In the meantime Elmer's mom and dad moved to Oklahoma, out in theSouthwestern part so we went out there too. We stayed little morethan a year, doing farm work. We returned to Arkansas and Elmer didfarm work for another guy for 75 cents per day. We rented and he didfarming and coal mining until 1935 when we bought 40 acres with an oldweathered house on it. We raised the house using what ever we coulduse in building again. We only gave $500.00 for the 40 acres. Wehauled rock from our pasture and built a rock house, up in style (wethought). It had a living room, two bedrooms with closets, a largekitchen, dining area with built-in cabinets, a bath, big screened inback porch, etc. We bought doors, windows, pain, roofing, ect. Thecost counting labor, ect was $450.00. We boarded tow men to do therock work for $2.00 per day each. Just $28.00 to have it rocked. When it was finished the Extension Homemakers agent came and madepictures for her newsletter. That was 1936. Our son was 13 years oldwhen Elmer had to go to the Navy in World War 11. After boot camp inSan Diego for 6 weeks, he was then sent to Kanohoe Bay in Hawaii. Heworked at the Navel Yard, was gone in the service 20 months. We werevery devoted to each other so we wrote every day. After he returnedhe bought farm machinery and continued farming.
I was 37 years old when our little girl was born. Our son was almost17 years old , but he dearly loved his little sister. He wasn't athome very much after he graduated from high school. She was 3 1/2years old when he married. He has a sweet boy and girl. We continuedliving on the farm putting Janella through grade school, then highschool and college. She married and has a boy and a girl. We alsohave 3 great grandsons. All are precious. (Grandma talking) Our son(Roland) had moved to Denver and was working for Gates Rubber Company.
We continued on the farm but sold the rock house and bought 5 acresfrom my dad, and built a completely insulated frame house. Elmer wasdoing custom hay baling when in 1974 he had a severe heart attact inJune and couldn't work in the hay any more. I continued gardening andcanning then 7 months later (Jan. 1975) my husband had a stroke whichcompletely paralized his right side, also his speech. He was in theVeterans hospitial in Fafyetteville for quite some time. Janellaheard abut Methodist Village in Fort Smith and we rented an apartmentand 10 years later I am still here, using my old blue 1973 pickuptruck.
Yes, I helped onthe farm, in baling hay, driving a tractor, or truckand mowing our lawn, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables andmost anything there was to do. Sometimes going fushing or picnicing, taking care of my mom which was a joy to me.
I do enjoy life and I am as well off here as anywhere Icould-be-so-----------
