!* Evidence that his first name was John is circumstantial, basedlargely on
conversations with Laverne Jernigan Hall who wrote the book One MansFamily,
(Andrew Jackson Blanscet) and Descendants. According to this book,Andrew
Jackson Blanscet's father was John Blanchet who died when AndrewJackson was
four months old. If this is true, he died about 1827.
* As a results of many conversations with family members, I amsatisfied that
Andrew Jackson was the brother of Nancy Elizabeth Blanchet MahatheyEdgin.
Samuel Edgin (son of Nancy) visited with Betty and Rose Blanscet(daughters of
Andrew Jackson) on occasion and they were certain that Betty and Rosewere
Samuel Edgin’s first cousins.
* Some of the other Blanscet’s living in the Franklin County,Arkansas from
about the 1850’s are possibly also children of this person (andsiblings of
Nancy Blanscet and Andrew Jackson Blanscet).
* There was a Peter Blanscet who was living in Warren County,Tennessee at
the time of the War of 1812. He was mustered out at Montgomery,Alabama. He
married Josephine Whetstine and they settled at Peters Pond nearWanneville,
Alabama. Among Peters sons were James, born 1789, LeRoy, born 1803,John,
born 1807 and Harden, Archibald and Robert. Peter also had daughtersMartha
and Sally. It is possible that John was a son of this Peter.
There is still room for a lot of work here. Eldon Elgin

!GENERAL:
* Gar Creek United Methodist Church records indicate that she joinedthe
Church August 3, 1911 along with her husband, her sister Mary and herdaughter
Ada.
* Birth date and place from Edgin Family Bible. She consistently gaveher
date of birth as June 18, 1868 in Lamar County, Texas.
* Date of death and burial from personal knowledge and Gar CreekCemetery
records.
* Marriage information from Edgin Family Bible. There is a bit of amystery
as to where she was married. I had always assumed that it wasFranklin
County, Arkansas; however, I can find no record in Franklin County.Need to
search the adjoining counties. It is possible that they went toanother
county to marry or that the marriage never was recorded.
* She was born in Lamar Co., Texas but was living in Marion Co.,Arkansas in
1880. She returned to Texas about 1881 along with her mother, auntBarsheeby
Moreland, brother James, and Sister Mary. I do not know where inTexas they
went on this trip. They had lived in Red River and Lamar Countybefore and it
seems likely that they returned to the same area.
* Her mother became sick with Pneumonia (probably in early 1883) whenPhoebe
was 15. Her mother died from the disease. Her brother, James, wasout in the
weather arranging for a doctor and for her funeral. James developedpneumonia
and died from it about a week after her mother’s death.
* Shortly after the death of her mother and brother, Phoebe, hersister Mary
and her aunt Barsheeby Moreland made arrangements for a neighbor tobring the
to Ozark, Arkansas where their uncle, William Moreland or CharlesMoreland was
to meet them. They arrived in Ozark, but the uncle was not there.
Therefore, she stayed in Ozark, Arkansas where she met her futurehusband.
* She was a tall woman, strongly built woman. She was quiet and very
determined probably as a result of hardships when she was a child.
* She developed gray hair early, a trait she passed to most of her
grandchildren.
* About 1920, some of the Morelands (Gypsy Moreland Avey, her brotherWilliam
and their mother, Ada Moreland) from Marion Co. came to visit Phoebeand her
family. According to the understanding at that time, William Morelandwent to
Ozark, Missouri rather than Ozark, Arkansas expecting to meet Phoebeand her
family here.
* I have not been able to find her family in the 1870 census. Shewould have
been 2 years old at the time. She was probably in Texas since hersister,
Mary, was born in Red River County, Texas in 1872.
* The 1880 census of Marion County, Arkansas (Hampton Township, Page6)
indicates that she was born in Arkansas. She consistently stated thatshe was
born in Lamar County, Texas which agrees with the family Bible. Sheis also
listed as age 15 in this census although she was born 18 June 1868.
* The 1900 census of Franklin County, Arkansas, White Oak Township, lists her
as 31, born June 1868, in Texas.
* The 1910 census of Franklin County, Arkansas, White Oak Township, family no
181, list her as age 42, born Texas.
* She was widowed when she was 50 years and 9 months old. She livedthe
remainder of her life in the same house she and her husband hadpurchased. ·
She had a stroke in 1936 (when she was 68 years old) which limitedher
ability to speak. She had several other small strokes over the nextfew years
which finally resulted in her death.
* After the death of Samuel in 1919, her daughter Ada and sister Marylived
with Phoebe until Phoebe's death.
* She suffered a mild stroke in 1936 and a series of strokes over thenext
several years which left her almost helpless.
* The Spectator newspaper, Ozark, Arkansas printed in the 50 yearsago
column, January 22, 1997 "Mrs. Phoebe Edgin is very ill at her home inthe Gar
Cree Community. Her daughter, Miss Ada Edgin is caring for her."
* Among the persons with her when she died were her daughters, Adaand Addie,
her son Raymond, her sister Mary, and neighbors, Hoyt Lee and Mrs.George
Middlebrooks. Mrs. Middlebrooks first husband was Dr. Williams andshe was
considered somewhat of an expert concerning illness and its treatment.Mrs.
Middlebrooks told those attending early in the day that most peopledied
during "the change of day", therefore, she thought it most likely thaPhoebe
would die about dark. She died at 6:00 P.M.
* The Spectator newspaper, Ozark, Arkansas printed in the 50 yearsago
column, February 5, 1997:
"Mrs. Phoebe Edgin, 78 years of age, widow of Sam Edgin, died at herhome in
Gar Creek community at 6 P.M., Thursday, after a long illness. Thefuneral
service will be held at Gar Creek Church Saturday at 1 P.M., witharrangements
in charge of Greers.
Survivors include two daughters, Miss Ada Edgin of the home and Mrs.Addie
sanders of route 1; two sons, Raymond Edgin of route 1 and NathanEdgin of
route 2; a sister, Mrs. Mary Dobbs of the home; and 14 grandchildren."The
artical is incorrece in the Mary Dobbs was Miss Mary Dobbs rather thanMrs.
Mary Dobbs. Mary never married.
